Have you used Mvix products before, what do you think about them, and how do you plan on using them.
Have not used any products, but they look pretty sweet. I'd love to get a chance to test some of these out! |

I cannot say I have used an Mvix product before! But, having looked at their website, I can certainly say they make a very sleek product! Out of all the products I saw, I think their home theater line of products are just swell. I would have a definite use for a home theater product for our TV. Right now, we have an old computer plugged in, and it's just not cutting it. These Mvix products look great for 1080p video! |

No, I have never used mvix products before, but I like what I see on their website. I like to test new electronics and I must say that these look great. If I were using them, aside from testing them out, I would also just use them for what they were made for. I like their Mvix Wireless Media Center out of everything |

I was not familiar with Mvix before this contest, but having read the post I went to their website and was pleasantly surprised. I am looking for a replacement for my ipod, and Mvix offers a lot more than that! My primary use would be to store my massive audiobook library alonside my music.

I have purchased and used many Mvix products before. My relationship with Mvix is recent and quite positive. The first product I purchased was an Mvix Ultio from Thinkgeek
http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/home-entertainment/bd4f/
. I placed a 1.5 TB HDD inside and followed the simple instructions to format the drive and transfer files. The file formats supported for playback are a bit overwhelming: this device will playback almost any media file. The highest quality files .mkv files to .mp3 to .jpg, it plays any format that I throw at it to the point that if it won't play on the Ultio then I blame the file. It's also network capable with an ethernet connection on the back and two usb ports which recognize an unfortunately limited variety of wireless USB cards at this point. One downside I found was the length of time it took to transfer all of my files: over 24 hours for 1.2 TB of music and video from three drives simultaneously. Another was the disappointing wireless USB card recognition. Updating the firmware is simple and straight forward as is downloading and installing the network programs on the device. When peril strikes and you can't figure out how to do something require trouble shooting their tech. support is swift and concise.
The other products I have tried include the USB Wireless N card (Nubbin) and the USB Wireless G card. The Nubbin is incredibley small and anecdotal evidence suggests that it can handle at least one full trip through the washer and dryer without losing functionality. Unfortunately this brings to light an obvious downside of any small removable media: it's easy to lose. At approx. $50, loss is not something that you want to occur and the Nubbin does not come with any method of attaching it to keys or similar object to prevent this.
The wireless G card is wide. Very wide. So wide that it can block other USB ports. Mvix knows this and included a short USB extension cable so prevent this obese beast from hogging all the space on your compy. It is also long. Very long. So long that attaching it to the Ultio requires you to reconsider how your TV stand is organised. Fortunately the USB extension resolves this issue once again. One complaint that is less frivilous is the fact that the wireless G card as well as the Nubbin to a lesser extent get very hot to the touch after prolonged use. Enough said.
All in all, Mvix is a company I would recommend to many who are looking for convenient alternatives to playing any media files on their entertainment system or perhaps just for convenient wireless peripherals.[/b] |
