Today's society is still full of outdated terminology to distinguish between the sexes, especially in the workplace. Eg: Steward-Stewardess, Waiter-Waitress...and the list goes on. Is there anything wrong with this? Not especially in my opinion, i think anyone who takes the difference to heart is being over-sensitive. That being said in this day and age of equal rights there is no NEED for a distinction, a more general term could be attached to these roles. I believe the only reason that such terms still exist is simply because people are so used to saying them that they do so without concious though. When related to the term "gamer" i believe the antiquated stereotype of most gamers being men still holds true, hence why some people feel the need to add female as a prefix.

Gaming has now become such a commonly accepted part of our society that i think the old stigma of male gamers need no longer apply. These days everyone with five minutes downtime can be found punching in a quick game of something on there iphones or other such devices, women included. Not to mention the unbridled success of MMORPG's and how deeply they have infiltrated our society. Perhaps there was always the same ratio of women to men within the gaming world? Maybe they were just "closet" gamers who now feel safe to "come out" as it were because gaming is now seen to be more socially acceptable? Who really knows... All I know is that I feel no need to use the female prefix in this context as the word gamer simply states "someone who enjoys gaming".

As a side note, yes women do have boobs, but it's really only relevant to gaming if theyre playing World of Warcraft with nothing but their nipples...

Well, that kinda reminds me that there didn't used to be a male term for "Script Girl"... ever so funny having that on one of your degrees if you have a beard to be honest...

Since I graduated they changed the job title to "Script".

Guess it was a karma thing that came back to bite us males in the be-hind Smile

Hey People,

What do you think of this?

"Feminine gamer a contradiction in terms?"

If anyone honestly believes that, then they deserve to be smacked in the face with a fish by one of the Macmanus brothers.

as a side ways smack to the topic I was recently talking to a mate in USA who told me that playing unreal online a few years back he was getting pawn'd by younger kids.
I asked what he did about it. apparently he went online with a newly created name and messaged the players, watch out boys I got big boobs and they is swinging free without a net in my t-shirt.
My reaction was get out of here !!!
His reply was I wasted em big time as they were so busy trying to message all type of ludicrous shite that I just blasted my way through and had an hour of being unbeatable...
So is there a moral? Nah..... but the thought of big boobies unrestrained would certainly distract my gameplay. Laughing Laughing Laughing
