i pod trouble

Hi all looking for a bit of help here my son recently wiped my laptop because of infection, but i have just tried to change the music on my ipod nano 2nd edition "i think" but when i plug it in first screen comes up saying "open folder to view files" when i click this i get just three folders saying Calenders, Contacts and Notes and nothing else and on the nano screen it just says don not disconect with a flashing no entry sign. All my music is still on my player but i cant change it , when i do unplug it all my music comes up on the player so i can play but im now stuck with this and cant change it cos there dont seem to be anything on my computer to bring up the list like it used to. Please help i may add that i am not pc savy so please any advice must be in abc cos im more slate and chisel than pc. Thanks in advance

the process is relatively painless and the guide link posted by Lord garth is fine. However one point not mentioned is do not check the sync dialogue box on the PC or Mac . this will replace everything on the pod and that will be BAD as you will lose your music library.

The following is the best.

As you are I believe on a PC then use a pc application to make a backup of all of your music etc on your ipod.
Once you have this you then download itunes and copy your music etc from the backup to itunes. You can then sync and manipulate song lists etc just as before.

Thanks very much for your help everyone, just got a mail from my son saying he will be home for the weekend so will let him look at your advice cos im bound to mess up. Thanks again
