Hi IH. I'v e got my fingers in many pies but one of my sidelines is new marketing for 'thought-out' established products/services. After reading your post i put the question to my 'creative marketing solutions' team and here's what they came up with (in no particualr order):

ISOhunt scrolling, dotmatrix, ads bar! Just like you see in travel agents windows, advertising the latest cheap flights. It would not interfere with the sight (much) and advertisers pay by the letter in the first instance and by the click in the second. It could run almost independent from the main isohunt site.

Isohunt retail/franchise. Selling your merchandise (direct in major capital city locations or selling the rights/franchise for others to do so) and user voted on hardware and gimmicks with a catalogue sales area dedicated to those, pre-vetted and contracted, who would like to market/sell direct, to your burgeoning user base.

...and my personal favourite, but i'm not sure how realistic it is, is to start an isohunt charity. Put collection boxes in airports etc. This may only build kudos but IMH'experience monies start rolling in from the most unexpected sources to help manage admin and just as sheer thanks for giving something back to society.

Lastly, a simple request to all usesrs (offer them something in exchange) who have websites, to put an ISOhunt, pay-pal donations button/link on there main/most relevant page should in all likleyhood, show some decent financial results in the long run.

Best wishes for the future from a grateful minion

Smile

This site is one of the best I've seen. I hope it will always stay afloat. I relize that there are all the guests, and legal obligations. There aren't many people anymore that will stand up for what they believe in, no matter what a lot of peeps say.

If ads are that we have to put up w/ to have all this great stuff at our fingertips, well then it's worth it to me.

I've learned a lot, and I'm hoping to give back.

Kudos Isohunt.

I filter all ads. I even filter any traffic analysis links that sites might use. I'm sorry. I know, I suck. But that is the way I roll.

And the site needs money for a new server. What a dilemma.

With traffic going up in a straight line and the database getting corrupted often, the site desperately needs a dedicated server and fatter hosting.

As you probably noticed, I've put up 4 text ads up at the top left. I will not resort to banners unless I have to, and pop-ups ugly and useless (popup killers).

I've hand picked these 4 ads, these are stuff I would buy myself. I hope we all have similar tastes Laughing

The Photon light is especially worth mentioning: this little LED keychain is _amazingly_ bright ! You can use it to read in complete darkness. The newest version (3) has all sorts of fancy features, like strobing, intensity, setting memory, etc. Check it out! They make great gifts too!! (hint hint)

If you bought something, besides my kudos, come back to this post (click the Comments link below) and vote on which product is the best!

NOTE : if you are involved with web hosting and would like to help out isoHunt, please drop me an email so we can discuss further. I've designed this site to use minimal bandwidth by professional standards, but it is CPU intensive.

UPDATE : Donation now at $18.66 (fees deducted). Big thanks to those who donated.
If $100 can be collected each month (including commisions from the ads) then the site can move to a new server. Thanks for your support.

Give me a dollar and i shall build you an empire

These ads are killing me. Theyre sooo annoying!

Yeah, but they keep this site up and running, so a little sacrifice isn't that bad considering what it offers to us. Wink
