This is a
very
basic guide utilizing
DeVeDe
and ImgBurn
there is a much more comprehensive manual for DeVeDe at their website
http://www.majorsilence.com/devede
| Quote: |
| DeVeDe is a program to create video DVDs and CDs (VCD, SVCD or CVD), suitable for DVD players, from any number of video files. Many different video formats are supported (mpeg, mpeg4, avi, asf, youtube and google flash videos, wmv, ogg, etc...).
DeVeDe is an open source program and is free for all use.
|
http://www.imgburn.com/ (direct download page = http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download )
| Quote: |
| ImgBurn is a lightweight CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray burning application that everyone should have in their toolkit! |
I have Windows XP - so this guide will be scaled to that particular OS,
feel free to let me know of any differences for other operating systems and i may occasionally update this guide...
but seriously they have a manual at their site well worth reading, and a wealth of options for one to tinker with
One thing worth mentioning is that DeVeDe works on many popular OS (including *nix)
Launch DeVeDe
Start > All Programs > DeVeDe > DeVeDe
The first screen that appears is
Selection
note you have many options but for sake of simplicity
we will be choosing the first one
Video DVD
Disc Structure
Click on Properties under the first field and rename Title 1
as you will come to see there are a whole lot of options you can learn to play with
most everyone will want to check box
Use optimizations for multicore CPUs
located in Advanced Options
Choose Add under the second field(Files)
find a file you want to add and make sure the video format is correct for your region
NTSC or PAL
File Properties
If you want to add subtitles but don't already have them check out this
list of subtitle sites
Disc Structure
Play around with
Menu options
if you want menu music
or to add in a pretty background for the title menu it has to be PNG format
There are limits to how much you can add to the project without losing quality
but after you've added what you want click
Adjust disc usage
which will automagically adjust the settings to fill the DVD image
Forward
Save Image
as you can see make sure to point to a partition that is
NOT
VFAT/FAT32 [
note
- we are creating an *.iso image file first with this step - do not use the dvd burner as the save location]
the final size for our particular image is going to be ~4.7 GB
rename it if you want to
Creating
when the conversion process is done ImgBurn pops up and creates the .iso image
now open/Launch ImgBurn
Start > All Programs > ImgBurn > ImgBurn
notice that my Log points out that my C:/ Drive is FAT32 format and cannot support files over 4GB
select
Write image file to disc
Source > Please select a file...
browse/navigate to the folder that you chose to save the .iso image in...
open
Select the
Write
option
again, leave your computer alone... write errors can occur when burning too fast or intensive cpu loads during write session
again this is the bare bones basic
there are a world of options to play with
--eldestFLeTcH
edit
bolded that 'DeVeDe is an open source program and is free for all to use.'
Thanks should go to
cbilljones
for consistently recommending DeVeDe and
Jenga122
for trying it out and posting about it in another thread
edit
added a bit more explanations |

Great guide, ill just add that for ubuntu you can install from repos:
| Code: |
| sudo apt-get install devede |
And imgburn isnt needed, just right click the created .iso and select "write to disc"
I was actually wondering recently if the *nix version and M$ one were the same, it seems there pretty much identical.
Bookmarked for future linkage |

I figured i'd put in some
FAQ
right here and edit it often
One common Problem that i have seen asked time and again is burn problems:
| Quote: |
| Converting takes a lot of resources so you really don't want to mess with your computer while it is converting |
| Quote: |
Burning should be done at slower speeds, and also not use cpu heavy programs during the burn
as to which DVD media? - many DVD players complain when DVDRW or DVD+R are used
DVD-R work most often and is recommended for movies |
| Quote: |
The location of the image must be set to a partition that is not formatted as VFAT/FAT32 (this is a null point for most users of XP/Vista/Seven) nor can one choose the DVD drive as the save location for the movie.iso file...
after the movie.iso file is created then we will use the imgBurn program to burn that movie.iso file to a dvd-r |

I've always found that dvd-r are perfect for dvd players and dvd+r perfect for data (i.e. files back up photos etc) |

Thanks for the tip on my problem, I am trying to find a good copy of Extraordinary Measures, all I have found was junk so far but thats power for the course.
Thumbs up to this program DeVeDe I have used it to just review movies to see if they are whole or not and they have attachments that you have to go to other sites to get other junk viewers and pay for them. I can not start to say what this dose that ConvertXtoDVD dose not.
Thanks Just what the Doc orderd. |

i did what you said but i am still getting the message as you can see below , was i suppose to go to a site and get permission or something?
thank you for your help
|
sorry, i'm just not around as much as i used to be, i'll be glad to help - i will repost this message to the actual DeVeDe thread so that if another comes along while i'm not around they might also be able to help ...
from the images and error message i can only assume that you clicked
OK
which would try to save the movie.iso file in the same directory where DeVeDe is installed - there may be write permission problems(i.e. FAT format Vs. NTFS, administrator privileges) or not enough space on that partition...
an alternate assumption is that you tried to use the DVD device as your save location,
either assumption can be solved by choosing a different location where the file is to be saved (remember a movie.iso file is going to be created so there should be at least 5 GB of free space where the image is to be created)
edit
something just occurred to me
do you have imgBurn installed?
DeVeDe uses that program(imgBurn) to create the movie.iso image file, and the second stage of this whole process is for you to use imgBurn to burn the movie.iso image file to DVD
edit
looks like the newest version has added some options
like:
Burn after conversion
- so no longer needs to be a two stage project |

Dont know mate but it would take longer because you have to use DeVeDe to convert the file then you have to burn the iso ...In convertxtodvd its all done in one click... |
