What of the military

I am certain that a lot of you saw the news where a few military guys were urinating on some dead victims. I've heard in real life comments some pretty strange stuff about the reason these people do this kind of act. I was wondering if I could post what I heard and see what all of you think.

"Those guys who p*$$3d on the dead bodies were trying to send a message of we don't care anymore!"

fitting in with the gang is an important social glue.
insulating the psyche from the moral conflict of killing a human by dehumanizing the enemy, is part of the military experience.
deportment, is an important skill that prevents those with TI from becoming complete barbarians in the eyes of civies.

Well like lord! garth! said, in the thick of chaos of killing it's quite natural to want to lean away from the moral aspect of your actions by de-humanizing the enemy. That doesn't make this ok though, they should have known better than to do such a low act as this.

They can murder innocents, rape women, enlist children to blow themselves up, improvise a nation.

We can - be nice to them.

While not condoning what they did, get the fk over it, they pissed on a few terrorists

Its a mixture of what garth and trollster said imo.
There are countless moments in war or agression where an enemy is treated with respect. But a terrorist deserves none.

You cant have your army going around pissing on dead ppl, but the response is using a sledgehammer to break a walnut, yeah they should be charged for it under some military code, but to be hung drawn and quartered over it is a bit over the top. In Vietnam they had skulls on spikes of dead "Charlie" around fires and named them.

Only reason I would say it is wrong is not because of respecting the dead (these assholes don't deserve that), but because they are failing in their own personal standards. Just because you are a beast doesn't mean I have to act like one. As an ex-squaddie the first thing I thought when I saw that was "You just embarrassed yourselves".

i get the sentiment regarding terrorists, but there was a problem with a few operations in the past. armed forces of various nationalities had problems due to thier lack of deportment, and humanity toward the civies in the area they occupied, and realized that raping pillaging, and defiling seriously curtailed the ability to move among these people, and created a situation of extreme danger when they were in low numbers or in a tactically compromised situation. The idea that dirt poor people are tring to claim a bounty by Swacking a hatchet into someones head, is one thing but draining it, on a fallen enemy, who is likely a conscripted farmer vs a hardcore taleb guerilla is how you generate a mutual disrespect, for yourself, and create or exacerbete a dangerous situation, and hinder movements through the country.

haven't seen this story as i haven't seen the news for a while.

having served in 3 different wars/conflicts, whatever you'd like to call them. i would say if they have p***ed over soldiers they have killed in a battle, then its an absolute disgrace.
for anyone i shot at in battle, i had the upmost respect for as they were doing a job the same as me. these adversaries also had family back home who were praying there loved ones would come home in one piece, the same as my family were.
if this is the case, throw the book at them.

if they were terrorists they p***ed over, then give them medals.
