Linking PC And A Laptop

Hi guys so have another question this one seems a bit tough to explain but pretty much want i want to do is link my PC up with my sisters laptop which would be in her room her bedroom door is pretty much opposite mine in the hallway by linking i mean for her to be able to see what movies i have and transfer them to her laptop.

And i remember when i use to live with some friends we had all our computers connected via just an ethernet cable i think and we could get files from each others computers so my dumb question is will this work and is a 10meter ethernet cable for her to be able to do this or a 10meter USB cable is an option i guess.

I guess i'm asking how would you guys do this? i currently just use a USB to put on whatever she wants but it's getting annoying when she asks what new movies i have and i have to look through them all.

I know i could probably have googled this but i trust you guys from here opinions more then randoms on google but i did have a bit of a look.

So if anyone has suggestions on what i should do please advise i'm not the sharpest tool in the shed so please try to keep things simple.

why not just create a homegroup and share that way.

cheers neph so i did some searching about homegroup and i changed my network to home however on my sisters laptop only options for customize network settings are public and private and if i search the computer for homegroup nothing comes up her laptop is running Windows Vista Basic well thats what the small sticker on it says and mine is running windows 7 so trouble shooting vista is shit? lol

i'm not sure what to do next all i know is my pc says 'this computer belongs to a homegroup' and my sisters Vista has no clue what a homegroup is lol

you need to have all pc's with the same homegroup pass.then go to the folders you want to share and choose the share with and to the extent.mine are all set to read write,you may wish to choose just read only since you have multiple users.

i can watch or edit any file on the other pc's no matter the romm they are in so long a the machine is on.

they should also show a bit below the homegroup in network when you click computer from the start menu and you can see what all shared there.just use that drop down to share with option.

Yeah but my sisters laptop does not think homegroups exist or home networks for that matter that's why i think it must be her Vista is crap

i have had vista and 7 in homegroups.

hey mate neph is right...best way is homegroup - no need for cables.

i used this to help me do mine:

took a bit of messing around but managed to do it in the end. The mrs had a vista laptop and always wanted things to watch when i was out, so this was a GOOD solution ha ha.

Proper way is to disable simple file sharing and share the folders you want and set the appropriate permissions. Homegroup is the wrong way to go about it in my opinion. After sharing the folders map your network drives in computer. You will need the same account/password on both boxes

hi there bud why dont you use simply team viewer for this purpose it can mentain wireless connection and you can also send and recive files.
